Il Veduta: Restaurant with EPIC views over Malta
Il Veduta translates from Italian as ‘The View’ and this is a restaurant that lives up to its name.
Situated just outside the old walled town of Mdina the terrace treats you to unspoiled 180 degrees views across the east of the island.
We managed to pick out the Rotunda of Mosta and the National Stadium as well as the stunning views of the coastline around Pembroke and Naxxar.
Even if you visit on a colder day when it’s not warm enough to sit on the terrace (of which there aren’t that many on Malta!) you still get great views from inside the restaurant.
Il Veduta Location and Opening Hours
Il Veduta restaurant is located in Rabat on the outskirts of the ancient city of Mdina.
It opens daily from 1100-1500 for lunch and 1800-2300 for dinner.
Our Visit to Il Veduta
Il Veduta is a truly beautiful place to have lunch or dinner and will live long in the memory. We have been lucky enough to eat out as some wonderful places over the years but there can’t be many better views than this in Europe let alone on Malta – well certainly not many we’ve seen.
The terrace is protected by a glass screen which keeps out the breeze that comes from being so high. It was a really nice temperature despite the fact we were visiting in mid November. The restaurant is surrounded by fields filled with flowers that drop down from the hills and they give the air a sweet floral scent. This is a venue that seems to be perfect in every way. We way even joined by a friendly cat to remind us of home.

Il Veduta Menu
The food at Il Veduta is heavily influenced by Italian cooking but has a Maltese twist. They have an extensive range of pizzas and pastas all at prices that were quite reasonable compared to a lot of the other restaurants we ate at on Malta. They have a menu online for you to checkout that will make your mouth water.
I opted for a Maltese pizza which was a combination of Maltese sausage, eggs, oregano and a local sheep’s milk cheese called gbejniet. Becca went for a crispy chicken burger that was coated in a crunchy cereal like coating.
There were certainly no complaints from us here (other than the groaning of eating too much at lunchtime!). My pizza was really tasty, the oregano really stood out and complemented the tomato and local really well with the Maltese sausage adding spice and salt into the mix.
How Much Did it Cost?
The restaurants around where we were staying in Sliema seemed to be fairly expensive so to get a pizza for less than €10 was pretty good compared to other places on Malta. We spent less than €25 on a big lunch and a few drinks so were pleased given the added bonus of the incredible views!
Finishing Up
If you are in the Mdina area and want to treat yourself to lunch or dinner in a spectacular setting I would highly recommend a trip to Il Veduta. The food is tasty, reasonably priced and the views need to be seen to be believed.
